Article – Two very effective treatments for Crohn’s disease

We certify patients for medical cannabis and many say it has been life-changing

However, for optimum results, we often recommend that cannabis patients utilize an alternate form of treatment as well. These methods often improve on what even cannabis can do, and sometimes offer deeper and more permanent improvement.

Because we are a full service primary care clinic specializing in integrative medicine we are able to offer many other types of complementary treatments:

  • Medical cannabis
  • Mental health modalities including conventional psychotherapy/counseling and hypnotherapy
  • Homeopathy
  • Bach Flower essences
  • Acupuncture
  • NeuroResearch Protocol (Serotonin and Dopamine precursor supplement system)

Our patients get the benefit of customized treatment plans that can include many types of conventional and complementary therapies.

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis also often respond to homeopathy.

Homeopathy can produce sustained remissions in some of these cases, often enabling patients to stop using cannabis to control the disease.

We can’t use the word “cure” in newsletters like this one. Cure is a word that is frowned upon by medical authorities. Nonetheless, the word does come to mind in some cases treated homeopathically.

For example, one of Dr. Mirman’s patients was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 1987. She was 53 years old at the time. Medical workup at Mount Sinai Hospital in Minneapolis, including colonoscopy, biopsy and abdominal CT scan revealed Crohn’s disease with a fistula and abscess. Bowel resection was suggested but declined. The patient sought homeopathic care from a local physician following Dr. Mirman’s recommendation (he was still a medical student at the time).

She improved greatly and a month later repeat CT scan no longer showed the abscess. Crohn’s symptoms completely subsided within a couple more years and homeopathic treatment for the condition was stopped. In 2001 she had a completely normal colonoscopy, and the GI consultant suggested that the initial diagnosis must have been incorrect. Today she is still free of Crohn’s disease.
